The roofs of the CF cabooses were metal on the prototypes covered with a painted on sealer. In the photo above, the sealer is showing it's age with the metal surface showing through in numerous places. As you would expect, the sealer was typically applied heavier adjacent to seams so you don't see the wear-through in those areas.
