A close up view of the cistern hatches show the functional locking devices that hold the hatches closed at speed. Often times there are no locks on cistern hatches, particularly those on tenders with water scoops. Many times the hatches act as relieve openings when scooping water at speed, with no relief the tender tank would literally blow apart which has actually happened on occasion. Since the H-8/AG tenders are not equipped with a water scoop this is not a concern.
